If you see a downed power line, STAY AWAY! Immediately go to a safe place and call Blue Ridge Mountain EMC.Never use it as a substitute for your heater. Make sure your kitchen range is off, both the surface and the oven.If the outage lasts over 60 minutes, turn off the electric water heater.Pick one room on the warm side of the house and use blankets to insulate the windows. In cold weather, close windows and drapes to save heat.Turn off every inside light except one.To prevent an overload on the system and possibly another outage, take these steps: Power outages that occur in severe weather, or that last for an extended period of time, can place a heavy burden on the system at the moment the power is restored. If the outage has affected your neighbors, contact Blue Ridge Mountain EMC at (706) 379-3121 or (800) 292-6456 to report the outage. If they're not, check your fuse box or circuit breaker to see if you can locate the problem. When your lights go out, check with your neighbors to learn if they are also in the dark. Medical facilities and individuals on life-support systems are given top priority during outages. Serviced first are primary lines serving hundreds and sometimes thousands of members. A service crew can be scheduled to install a meter at that time.When severe weather causes power outages, employees of Blue Ridge Mountain EMC immediately begin working to restore power to as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time. When your electrician has completed the installation of the metering equipment, you must call BRMEMC to ensure that we have received the final electrical inspection from your county. Once all items in Step 4 has been returned to BRMEMC, the job will be released to the construction department to be scheduled by that supervisor. Final electrical inspection needs to be faxed from county before the meter will be set.Complete and return the service forms to BRMEMC.Payment of any costs for construction of electrical services.Bill will be mailed to member with a list of any forms or easements needed.If the member is unable to meet with the engineer at that time, see step four. BRMEMC will create a work order that will send an engineer to the location to stake the service and inform the member of costs.
